Cowberry

Since ancient times people have known about the beneficial properties of cowberry. This is an evergreen scrub with red round berries with sour-and-sweet taste. 

Harvesting of cowberries begins in the end of August and lasts till November, i.e. until the first frost. These tasty berries preserve beneficial properties for a long time. 

Cowberry contains lots of sugars, ascorbic acid, catechins, pectins, vitamins В, Е, provitamin А, mineral salts.

They are rich in organic acids, for example, aceric, citric, acetic, formic, oxalic. Besides, cowberries contain essential oils, glycosides, minor nutrient elements, phosphoric acid and nitrogenous matters.

A long storage period of these berries is conditioned by content of benzoic acid which prevents decay and foul. The leaves also have beneficial properties. 

Dried leaves and berries are included in medicinal herb compositions with disinfectant, urinative and bile-expelling action. Such medicinal herb compositions can be found in any drug-store. 

Thanks to its beneficial properties this plant finds application in cosmetology. Decoctions of cowberry leaves cure loss of hair, dandruff and also relieve skin inflammatory process. 

Beauty masks of fresh cowberries moisturize face skin and prevent from early wrinkles. Cowberry extract is used in cosmetology thanks to its tonic effect and content of antioxidants providing skin smoothness.

Cowberry has a positive effect for cure of arthritis and diabetes. It is also effective in case of colds and kidney pathologies, is used as a polyvitaminic remedy and is good for vascular walls. 

Tasty cowberry juice is produced from berries, which is a healthy drink in case of hypertensive disease, stomach diseases; it is also effective for prophylactics of colds.
